希望之島, 淚水之島

1892年美國開放 Ellis 島, 作為移民進入紐約的檢查站, 開放的第一天1月1日第一個通過移民局窗口的是一個15歲的女孩, Annie Moore 來自愛爾蘭 (12/20離開愛爾蘭 12/31到達 Ellis 島), 帶著兩個弟弟.

直到1943年美國關閉 Ellis 島的檢查站, 期間共有 1,700 萬移民經過 Ellis 進入美國, 其中有一大部分是來自愛爾蘭. 如今 Annie Moore 的銅像豎在 Ellis 的碼頭, 作為紀念.
